- Md. Ahmaruzzaman is currently working as a Professor in the Department of Chemistry. He received his postgraduate degree in M.Sc. (Chemistry) from North Bengal University after his graduation from the same University. He also received his postgraduate degree in M.Tech. (Energy Science & Technology) from Jadavpur University. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. He has supervised several projects at the post graduate level. He has produced more than seventeen PhDs and several PhD scholars are working under him. He has published more than 370 research papers in international journals as well as in various national and international conferences. He has more than 19200 Citations in International Journals. He is a reviewer of various peer-reviewed reputed International and National journals. He is the Co-Editor of the Environmental Research and Technology Journal. He is also the Associate Editor of the International Journal of Environmental Analytical Chemistry (Taylor and Francis) and Frontiers in Environmental Chemistry. He also serves as an Editorial Board Member, Scientific Reports (Nature); Discover Materials (Springer-Nature).
- Professor Dr. Md. Ahmaruzzaman has been ranked in the world’s top 2 % of scientists released by Elsevier and US-based Stanford University. He has been ranked for four consecutive years, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025, in the top 2 % of scientists worldwide . He has been declared the best scientist in the National Institute of Technology Silchar by the AD SCIENTIFIC INDEX for the years 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 20204, and 2025.

Professor Md. Ahmaruzzaman achieved a milestone of becoming one of the top 20 scientists in India by Elsevier and Stanford University in the year 2025. He has been ranked 19th among the Indian scientists and holds the 1605th position globally in the environmental science category. This marks his sixth consecutive inclusion in this prestigious list since 2020, a testament to his remarkable research contributions. The ranking is based on rigorous criteria, including citation metrics, h-index, and overall research output, highlighting his enduring impact on the field of chemical sciences. It gives me immense pleasure to see that my three PhD students, namely, Dr. Soumya Ranjan Mishra, Dr. Vishal Gadore, and Dr. Gaurav Yadav, have also been featured in the top 2% of scientists in 2025. This statistic shows the strong potential of our research group, leading to high-quality research in Prof. Md. Ahmaruzzaman's laboratory. The ranking is based on rigorous criteria, including citation metrics, h-index, and overall research output, highlighting his enduring impact on the field of chemical sciences.
