The Department of Chemistry at the National Institute of Technology Silchar, Assam, was established in the 1977–1978 academic session, when the institute was known as Regional Engineering College (REC), Silchar. Since its inception, the department has played an important role in undergraduate education by offering fundamental and engineering-oriented chemistry courses, encompassing both theory and laboratory components, to B.Tech. students across various engineering disciplines. The department expanded its academic and research activities with the introduction of the Ph.D. program in Chemistry in 2005–2006, followed by the M.Sc. in Chemistry program in 2009–2010 to provide advanced education and research opportunities in chemical sciences.
Our Vision
To be a centre of excellence in chemical sciences, advancing education, research, and innovation in frontier areas of chemistry while nurturing competent and creative graduates prepared for a rapidly evolving scientific and technological world.
Our Mission
To provide high-quality education and research training in fundamental and applied chemistry, fostering scientific curiosity, critical thinking, and innovation, and empowering students to address emerging challenges in science, technology, environment, and society.
